Bringing together Parliamentarians committed to protecting the sexual and reproductive health and rights of the world’s most vulnerable

About EPF
EPF is a network of members of parliaments from across Europe who are committed to protecting the sexual and reproductive health of the world’s most vulnerable people, both at home and overseas.

What does EPF believe

  • We believe that women should always have the right to decide upon the number of children they wish to have, and should never be denied the education or other means to achieve this that they are entitled to by law.

  • We believe that it makes sense personally, economically and environmentally for governments to devote development aid to initiatives protecting people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights.

What does EPF do
Europe is home to 18 of the world's 23 governmental donors of development assistance. The world’s leaders have pledged to protect the sexual and reproductive health and rights of the world’s most vulnerable in a number of major commitments (such as the Programme of Action adopted at the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, 1994 and the Millennium Development Goals, 2000). The MPs in our network play a crucial role in making sure that these commitments are met by their national government, and educating their peers about the issue. To educate and inform MPs about the importance of supporting sexual and reproductive health and rights initiatives EPF organizes the following activities:

  • Field visits to relevant projects in developing countries for MPs and their assistants

  • Support for parliamentary activities focusing on sexual and reproductive health and rights

  • Conferences on key topics for MPs and other relevant stakeholders

  • Training to develop understanding and expertise in sexual and reproductive health issues.

What value does EPF add
We provide the only pan-European framework for MPs wishing to forge consensus and collaborate on initiatives relating to sexual and reproductive health.

We provide the expertise for UN agencies, inter-governmental organisations and non-governmental organisations that are interested in working with Parliamentarians.

EPF’s history:
EPF began as a project of the International Planned Parenthood Federation European Network.

  • It was legally registered in Belgium and recognised by Royal Decree in 2000.

  • In 2004, EPF became a fully independent not-for-profit organisation.
