From 6-13 January 2002, EPF brought a delegation of five Members of Parliament, from Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Switzerland Parliament, on a field visit toThailand focusing on HIV/AIDS prevention and the trafficking of women and children for sexual exploitation.
The delegation held a series of meetings with policy makers and NGOs and visited projects in Northern and central Thailand with the express aim of hearing about and seeing how responses to HIV/AIDS and trafficking are being organised at national and local levels. The study tour was hosted by the Planned Parenthood Federation of Thailand.
"We are here to learn about effective realistic and humanitarian responses to these issues that cause too much human suffering", said study tour spokesperson Senator David Norris from Ireland.
The delegation held policy dialogues with the Thai Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare in Bangkok, a woman who says she refuses to watch trafficking and prostitution destroy families and communities throughout Thailand and other Asian countries.
