On 28- 29 October 2010, an EPF delegation attended the “Central Asia Parliamentarian Meeting on Gender and ICPD”. The meeting was organised by the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) and hosted by the Parliament of Kazakhstan in Almaty.
 

The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD), recently awarded with the UN Population Award, organised a parliamentary consultation on 30-31 August in Bangkok in collaboration with EPF entitled “Emerging Economies and Population: Reproductive Health Programmes”. 

From 20-22 October 2010, UNFPA held a regional meeting in Istanbul entitled "From Cairo to Beijing and Beyond: the unfinished agenda on gender equality in Eastern Europe and Central Asia." The meeting's objective was to review progress and challenges in the area of gender equality, equity and the empowerment of women as covered by the ICPD Programme of Action. 34 experts attended the meeting from government agencies, parliaments, NGOs and academic institutions, from a total of 20 countries.

From 19-22 September 2010, EPF participated to a series of event and conferences held in the context of September 2010 High-Level Meeting which was dedicated to the MDGs.

A three-day workshop on “Global Parliamentarians Consultation on Reviewing Advocacy Techniques for Working with Parliamentarians,” has concluded with agreement on the essential role played by advocacy and fundraising in parliamentary work and the importance of monitoring and evaluating these efforts. Organised by The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) in collaboration with UNFPA the workshop was held in Koh Samui, Thailand on 7-9 May 2010.

On 1 June 2010, Mr. Andris Piebalgs, EU Commissioner for Development, received an EPF parliamentary delegation composed of three EPF Executive Committee members, Hon. Petra Bayr, MP (Austria), Hon. Minna Sirnö, MP (Finland) and Hon. Antonia García Vals, MP (Spain). Marieke Boot from DG Development of the European Commission, Elina Melngaile, member of the Commissioner’s Cabinet as well as Neil Datta, EPF Secretary, and Miguel Ongil, EPF Programme Officer also participated in the meeting.

From 1-5 March 2010, 11 European Parliamentarians gained first hand insight into the 15 years UN review of the implementation of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment thanks to a Parliamentary delegation visit organised by the European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development (EPF) in the context of the EPF Parliamentary Taskforce on the UN.

EPF, together with the Danish All Party Group on Reproductive Health and Rights, the Danish Family Planning Association Sex and Samfund and the Population and Climate Change Alliance organised a Parliamentarian’s working lunch as a side event to the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference (COP 15), in December 2009.

The European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development (EPF) and the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) were invited by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) to bring a 10 member Parliamentary Delegation to the Alliance's Fourth Partners’ Forum held in Vietnam from 18-20 November 2009. The visit included a mini field visit to a Commune Health Centre. Co-hosted by the Minister of Health of Vietnam and GAVI, the Alliance Partners’ Forum attracted nearly 450 immunisation experts from around the world.

EPF President Hon. Carina Hägg, MP (Sweden) and EPF Executive Committee Member Hon. Birute Vesaite, MP (Lithuania) represented EPF at the NGO Forum on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Development that was held from 2-4 September 2009 in Berlin/Germany and hosted by the German Government and UNFPA.

The Inter-American Parliamentary Group (IAPG), the American sister network of EPF, invited EPF as an observer to its IV Council meeting that took place on 27-28 July 2009 in Caracas, Venezuela.

On 23 April 2009, on the occasion of the second World Malaria Day, the European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development (EPF) organised a working lunch buffet in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, hosted by EPF’s Malaria Taskforce member Hon. Thierry Cornillet, MEP (ALDE, FR). Gathering around 20 participants, MEP Thierry Cornillet recalled that "every year, Malaria causes more than one million deaths worldwide, affecting particularly young children and pregnant women. Every 30 seconds an African child dies from Malaria”. He emphasised that it is Parliamentarians’ responsibility to urgently address this issue.

The parliamentary delegation visit, from 30 March -3 April 2009, to New York was organised in the framework of EPF’s Parliamentary Taskforce dedicated to the UN which was launched at the beginning of 2008 and which focuses on supporting Parliamentary involvement in UN decision-making and ensure that a Parliamentary perspective supporting SRHR is heard in relevant UN settings.

EPF invited as an Expert to the first reading of the Draft Report “15 years since the Programme of Action of ICPD” of the PACE Social, Health and Family Affairs Committee

On the 23-24 February 2009, EPF was invited to speak at the annual meeting of the HIV/AIDS Networks of the Parliamentary Assembly for “la Francophonie” (PAF) hosted by its Malian Section.

Within the framework of the regionalisation of UNFPA, the Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia held its first Regional Planning Meeting, which took place in Bratislava from 17-19 March.

In the framework of her visit to Brussels on 26 January, H.E. Mrs. Sandra Roelofs, the First Lady of Georgia visited EPF’s offices to inform herself about EPF’s current activities and parliamentary work on SRHR across Europe and at EU level.
