Study Tours
| Experience is the best teacher. There is no substitute for taking in the sights, sounds, smells and emotional impact of under-funded hospital maternity wards, fistula clinics, or hospices for people living with AIDS. There is no equivalent to talking one-to-one with the doctors and nurses who must provide care with a paucity of supplies, or visiting with girls trying to delay marriage and childbearing so they can continue their education. The personal experience of visiting a project frequently has an emotional impact that leads to a commitment to take action. EPF conducts field visits that bring Parliamentarians to developing countries to see first hand the need for sexual and reproductive health and rights programmes. Parlamentarians talk to people who receive and provid services, community leaders and local experts to get a better understanding of the challenges they face. They meet with government ministers, UN Agencies, NGO representatives and the delegations of the European Governmental Donors to emphasise the importance of SRHR to the overall development of the country. Back home, Parliamentarians relate their experience to governmental policies and budget priorities, thus becoming stronger advocates.
