YEREVAN, January 26 – In the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia the APPG on population and development organised a meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Health and UNFPA on abortion and sex selective abortions. The discussion was chaired by the APPG chair, Hon. Margarit Yesayan, MP.
UNFPA Armenia Assistant Representative presented statistical data and current issues around abortions and sex selective abortions in Armenia. Particularly, he mentioned that the selective abortion was reduced. The Head of the Department of Mother and Child Health Protection of the Ministry of Health described the legislative regulations related to the issues.
Presentations were followed a questions and answer session with MPs. By transition to the system of parliamentary government the RA NA have been reserved oversight wide functions, Margarit Yesayan documented noting that the members of the Group would be in the relevant medical institutions and focus on the situation.
