BRUSSELS, 6 February – Belgian MEP Hon. Hilde Vautmans published an opinion article on the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. In the article, published in MO magazine, she urges the European Commission and member states to redouble their efforts to play an important role in ending FGM worldwide.
Ms Vautmans notes that FGM is a problem in many European countries and that, although some countries have laws specifically forbidding it, few people face prosecution.
