MEPs for Sexual and Reproductive Rights (MEPs for SRR) is a dynamic all-party group in the European Parliament with members drawn from across political groups and EU Member States.  We advocate for the support of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) as the basis for sustainable social and human development and achieving gender equality as an integral part of human rights, in accordance with the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development. EPF provides the secretariat for the working group.

Contraception Atlas 2024

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) play a unique role in ensuring that the EU, the world’s largest donor, delivers on its commitment to the SDGs. Established in 1991, the "MEPs for SRR" group represents a cross-section of the EU Member States and Parliament’s political groups. Consisting of 43 MEPs at the end of the 9th legislature, our working group is now open to welcome champions and supporters of SRHR as new members.

Our goals

1. Provide a forum for dialogue and raising awareness of the need for an integrated approach to SRHR, gender equality, and sustainable development.
2. Monitor and increase resources from the EU for SRHR programmes, especially in developing countries.
3. Raise awareness at the EU and national level on the need to adopt SRHR policies, laws, and programmes.

Our activities

Policy Input

  • Initiating European Parliament reports on SRHR-related issues
  • Tabling amendments at the Committee and the Plenary levels to ensure that all relevant reports draw attention to SRHR
  • Ensuring the EU commitment to the UN international agreements(e.g., ICPD, Beijing Platform of Action, and SDGs)
  • Ensuring through Parliamentary Questions the Commission's and the Council's support for SRHR externally and internally

Resource Mobilisation

  • Calling on the EU to recommit adequate and sustainable funds for SRHR in the new Multiannual financial framework (MFF) and EU's annual budget
  • Advocating for a more efficient and effective implementation of the Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) in the context of human development

Awareness Raising

  • Giving political visibility to SRHR by making public statements, publishing articles and writing letters to key decision-makers in the European Commission, the Council and the Member States
  • Hosting a variety of events on SRHR related-issues with expert speakers, including the launch of the annual UNFPA ‘State of the World Population’ report
