European and African Parliamentarians at CSW

NEW YORK, 12-16 March - A parliamentary delegation organised by EPF attended the 62nd Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 62). Over five days the delegation attended plenary sessions, side events and conducted several meetings with partners. The five parliamentarians are from Belgium, Cameroon, Malawi, Spain and Sweden. 

The MPs were briefed by several organisations at the forefront of securing sexual and reproductive health and rights for all and empowering women and girls. These included: UNFPA, Ipas, and Women Deliver. In a meeting with the Holy See, the delegation discussed SRHR, violence against women and CSW negotiations. 

The delegation also had the opportunity to meet with Danish MPs and discuss with them ways in which parliamentarians can best make the case for SRHR at the national and international level. 

The delegation was: Senator Petra de Sutter (Belgian Senate); Hon. Marie Rose Nguini Effa, MP (Cameroon); Hon. Paul Chibingu, MP (Malawi); Senator Jose Antonio Rubio Mielgo; Ulrika Karlsson (Sweden).
