MADRID - The Spanish APPG met with women's rights defenders from El Salvador and Mexico with the aim to spread awareness of the increased sexual and reproductive rights abuses in Central American countries and advocate for changing the legislative framework and facilitating access to sexual and reproductive health, promoted by NGO FPFE. Morena Herrera, member of several national and regional organizations that fight for the decriminalization of abortion and the rights of women, leads citizen efforts to decriminalize abortion and to put an end to the unfair imprisonment associated with it.
During the same week, members of the APPG met again in the parliament with Sandra Peniche, director of the Mexican organization “Servicios Humanitarios en Salud sexual y reproductiva” and Veronica Vidal, coordinator of “Asociación para los Derechos de las Mujeres y el Desarrollo (AWID)”. MPs agreed to submit the declaration in the gender equality and international cooperation committee to get approval to encourage governments to protect and guarantee human rights at a national level.
