SKOPJE - EPF attended a conference in the Macedonian capital, co-hosted by HERA, IPPF MA and UNFPA, the aim of which was to present the cost-saving analysis of modern contraceptive provision in the Republic of Macedonia and present the 2018 Contraception Atlas to the participants.  A discussion ensued over how to improve the shortcomings in the country’s performance.

This event was attended by a total of 20 participants, including representatives from the UN Agencies in Skopje, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Health Insurance Fund of Macedonia, Members of Parliament from the relevant inter-parliamentary groups, experts and gynaecologists from the country.

Participants discussed the issue of reimbursement programmes with more government investment into such schemes provoking a considerable rise in contraception use in other regions, and thus having a profound impact upon public sexual health and drastically reducing the rate of unwanted pregnancies. And so, it was agreed that collectively, these changes would not only transform the lives of Macedonian women but would also benefit the national economy, due to less spending required later on for reproductive issues.
