MPs Speak at ICPD Meeting in Geneva

GENEVA, 1-2 October – Several MPs spoke at the UNECE and UNFPA ICPD consultations in Geneva, where the topic of the session was ‘Enabling Choices: Population Dynamics and Sustainable Development.’ EPF President Ulrika Karlsson, MP (Sweden) gave a presentation Taking stock of parliamentary work in advancing ICPD PoA.' Azerbaijan APPG Chair Hon. Malahat Ibrahimqizi then spoke about the progress regarding ICPD in Azerbaijan, discussing the country’s recent successes for gender equality, with a focus on SRHR.

Focusing on ICPD beyond 2014, and in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the conference assessed the implementation ICPD Programme of Action in the UNECE region. It focused on the key actions for implementation and address concerns related to: population dynamics and sustainable development, families, SRHR, inequalities, social inclusion and human rights.

The conference was preceded by a CSO meeting the evening before which was attended by EPF Secretary Neil Datta spoke about anti-SRR movements and Senior Policy Officer Marina Davidashvili also attended.
