POLAND – The 2019 Contraception Atlas hit the headlines in several countries, including Belgium, Portugal, Spain and the UK. However, it is this year’s lowest-scoring country, Poland, which has reacted the most strongly to our findings.

Over 20 Polish media platforms, from the country’s main independent television channel TVN 24, the national editions of lifestyle magazines Glamour and Elle, and expat publication Krakow Post – in the two weeks following the launch, the results spread all over Polish media.

Polish left-wing political party Razem went as far as handing out condoms in the streets, accompanied by leaflets discussing the Atlas’ findings. Here's hoping that the country's disappointment will translate into political progress in the coming months, so that Polish women are given family planning choices and care which compete with their European neighbours.
