Elona Hoxha Gjebrea is a member of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania representing the Socialist Party. She has been a member of the Albanian Parliament for the Socialist Party since 2017 and is currently secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and a member of the National Security Committee. Ms. Gjebrea is also Deputy Chair of the Alliance of Women MPs. With a background in academic and civil society, she has been an advocate for gender issues as well as reproductive health and human rights.
She has been Executive Director of Centre for Population and Development for 8 years and also lecturer in University of New York in Tirana. In 2013 she became Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and National Anti-Trafficking Coordinator, a position she held until 2017. Ms. Gjebrea was elected Rapporteur at the 2018 Annual Session in Berlin and re-elected at the 2019 Annual Session in Luxembourg.
She studied Biology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Tirana University, holds a master degree in Aerobiology from Faculty of Natural Sciences and a PhD from Worcester University in cooperation with Coventry University in the United Kingdom. She has published numerous research articles and participated in many international conferences. Mrs. Gjebrea received awards for her scientific dedication and achievements.
Mrs. Hoxha is member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Population and Development and still works closely with NGOs on issues related to health, health services and gender based violence.
