BRUSSELS, 13 November 2019 - MEPs for SRR member Hon. Sylwia Spurek MEP, (Poland) asked a parliamentary question based on the results on the 2019 Contraception Atlas, which saw Poland rank last place out of 46 countries in Europe:
"It is worth pointing out that the aim of EU cohesion policy is to create a level playing field among the regions of the EU.
In the light of Council Directive 2004/113/EC of 13 December 2004, denial of access to goods and services which by their nature only concern one gender must be regarded as discrimination on the grounds of gender.
In its resolution of 16 January 2019, the European Parliament strongly affirmed that the denial of sexual and reproductive health and rights was a form of violence against women and girls.
In its resolution of 13 February 2019, the European Parliament called on the Commission to include the promotion and improvement of sexual and reproductive health and rights in the next public health strategy.
1 What is the state of play as regards work on the next public health strategy?
2 Has the Commission included the issue of promoting and improving sexual and reproductive health and rights in the draft for the strategy?
3 Are the Member States participating in the drafting of the strategy, and what is their take on the issue of promoting and improving sexual and reproductive health?"
