Contraception Atlas 2018 in the news

News type: EPF news  |  Post date: 11/04/2018

The Italian news publication, Ingenere, has recently published an article in response to our 2018 Contraception Atlas. The article, whose title translates to "In Europe 43% of pregnancies are unplanned," expressed shock and concern over this statistic, as well as the numerous others we presented in our report. It writes:

"The fact that in Italy, contraception is not universally accessible, we had already understood from the previous report, and very little has changed in these months. In fact, although our country has risen slightly in the ranking - going from 52.2% to 55.8% in the scale that measures the performance of individual states - it is not yet among the 11 countries that offer an institutional website of information on reproductive planning, nor among the 18 that provide reimbursements for contraception expenses."

Meanwhile, Belgian Flemish-language publication Der Standaard released an article to rejoice the country's top spot in the conraception accessibility ratings.

It writes:

''Not in the Netherlands, not in the Scandinavian countries, but with us you find the easiest online info about the pill, the condom, the spiral and other contraceptives. And those means are also the easiest to get with us. This is shown by the European Contraception Atlas, which was recently published.''

Hopefully the Belgian publication showcasing such pride over their nation's success in this area will encourage its neighbours to follow suit!
