It is our pleasure to invite you to the launch of the fourth edition of the Contraception Atlas 2020, an online interactive map that scores 46 countries across geographical Europe on access to modern contraception. As every year, the Atlas 2020 focuses on access to online information about modern contraception, and access to contraceptive supplies and counselling. Since its first launch in 2017, the Atlas has already brought by a number of legislative changes in European countries as well as on the pan-European level, which will be reflected in this year’s presentation.

The webinar event hosted by Hon. Sophie in't Veld, MEP and Hon. Terry Reintke, MEP will take place on Thursday 12 November at 14:00-15:30. This will be an interactive event, bringing various stakeholders together to discover the Atlas and exchange ideas on how it can shape policies, specifically focusing on the initiative’s advocacy goals.

It is a chance to:

● Discover the new edition of the Atlas, showing the disparities among European countries and changes in their performance since 2019, including positive impact on policies since its first publication,

● Emphasize the importance of reimbursement of contraceptives and counselling by healthcare systems,

● Emphasize the importance of meeting and expanding women’s contraceptive choices and including highly reliable methods such as long acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs)

● Emphasize the importance of information provided by public authorities on contraception,

● Discuss how to improve the situation in Europe and take evidence-based actions for change in access to contraception and its information in Europe.

Additionally we will take a look at the challenges and disruptions in access to contraceptive services and supplies brought about by the COVID – 19 pandemic and the need to ensure resilient health systems.
