Cyprus has a population of 1.2 million and scores 51.4% in the 2020 Atlas, which places it in the orange category. The country has a multi-payer healthcare system, and while it does not provide contraceptive reimbursement, Cyprus provides emergency contraception without prescription. However, accessing information has proven to be insufficient in several key areas such as financial information and types of contraceptives. The country is also lagging behind in terms of providing necessary information in minority languages. Cyprus has an estimated 4 adolescent (15 - 19) births per 1000 adolescents.
Recommendations:
- All women of reproductive age should benefit from reimbursements for contraception supplies. This should be ensured by the government, including special schemes for adolescents and vulnerable groups.
- Unbiased, coherent, and detailed online information on contraception should be provided, preferably with Cyprus government support, and the endorsements of key stakeholder groups such as HCPs, academia, industry, and policymakers.
- Online information should also be provided in minority languages to ensure equal access.
