The Czech Republic has a population of 10.7 million and scores 50.7% in the 2020 Atlas. This comparatively low rank in the Atlas is due to insufficient logistical and financial information found on contraception access. The country has a decentralised healthcare system and it is not offering reimbursement for contraception. However, it is important to note that it fares well when it comes to information available in minority languages as well as web discoverability. The Czech Republic has an estimated contraceptive prevalence rate of 63%, higher than its western neighbour Germany (61%) and a modern contraceptive prevalence rate of 56%.
Recommendations:
- The orange category represents the fragile balance between moving forward or regression, exchange of best practices at the regional and national level could be key to moving to a better performing colour.
- Reimbursement needs to be integrated within the Czech Republic health care policy with better options for both adolescents and vulnerable groups. To limit budgetary constraints, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and success rates in the long term must be considered.
- Logistical and financial detailed information on contraception needs to be provided online, preferably with the government support and the endorsement of key stakeholder groups such as HCPs, academia, industry, and policymakers.
