On Monday this week, a delegation led by EPF President Hon. Petra Bayr visited the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus in Nicosia.

The Chairperson of the Parliament's Committee on Human Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women, Hon. Iríni Kharalampídou MP, and her fellow members, Hon. Yiórgos Koukoumás MP (Deputy Chairperson), Hon. Ríta Theodórou Soúperman MP, Hon. Photiní Tsirídou MP, Hon. Mários Mavrídis MP and Hon Alexandra Attalidou MP welcomed the EPF delegation accompanied by the President and the Executive Director of the Cyprus Family Planning Association (KSOP) Dr. Gifts of Georgiou and Ms Maria Epameinonda.

Ms. Kharalampídou pointed out the financial constraints of vulnerable groups in society, as well as the lack of adequate scientific sex education in schools as major obstacles around SRHR and underlined the important role that national parliaments can play both in ensuring adequate financial resources and in formulating public policies regarding education in school.

The EPF delegation introduced their activities, mainly regarding research and providing technical assistance to national parliaments and the European Parliament on issues related to the protection of sexual and reproductive rights.

At the end of the meeting, both sides committed to more cooperation between the Cypriot Parliament and the EPF, in close cooperation with the Cyprus Association of Family Planning.
