133 Members of the European Parliament have written to the President of the EU Council and several EU commissioners to express their concerns on the area of human rights in Poland, in particular, that of the human rights of women. They write on behalf of the MEPs for Sexual and Reproductive rights group as well as All of Us, the European Parliament's cross-party, pro-choice campaign.
They express their concern about the severe restrictions on abortion in Poland as well as the strict prison sentences and penalties that may come as a result of breaking this law.
They also express their dismay at the country's plan to introduce a centralised register of pregnancies that would oblige doctors to report all pregnancies and miscarriages to the government.
Such attempts to restrict our basic fundamental rights have no place in the EU.
The letter concludes by asking the EU Commissioner as guardians of the treaties to stand up for the rights of the people of Poland.
