G20 Contraception Policy Atlas

Publication type: Atlas  |  Post date: 21/05/2025

The G20 Contraception Policy Atlas was presented at the G20 Parliamentary Conference on the 5th of May in Cape Town, highlighting the economic importance of investing in women's health through improved access to modern contraception.

The Atlas, part of the Global Contraception Policy Atlas initiative, evaluates national policies across 18 G20 countries (excluding USA) using regionally adapted criteria. It serves as a policy-focused tool to establish a shared baseline and encourage discussion among policymakers. It does not measure contraceptive use or prevalence.

The key findings show that:

  • 3 countries (16%) score high,
  • 10 countries (55%) score good to medium,
  • 5 countries (27%) scored poor to exceptionally poor.

Despite policy discrepancies, 72% of countries fell within the medium to very good range.

The Atlas aims to support policy development by providing a comparative overview of national frameworks and underlining the broader social and economic benefits of improved reproductive health policies.
