OTTAWA – Following this year’s IPCI conference in the Canadian capital, the EPF council took advantage of having already congregated to hold their yearly council meeting, including elections for the coming year’s president, two vice presidents, and executive committee. After an overview of EPF’s activities and achievements of the past 12 months, the council reviewed all candidates, for both committee and presidential roles. The result was that Hon. Petra de Sutter, MP (Belgium) was elected as the new EPF President, with Hon. Petra Bayr, MP (Austria) and Hon. Öznur Çalık, MP (Turkey) as vice presidents.
Furthermore, Poland was inaugurated as a new member and the council voted in favour of allowing individual MPs to become members when their country has no established APPG. Finally, the council discussed the upcoming formation of the Global Parliamentary Alliance on Health, Rights and Development (GPA) provides a platform for parliamentarians from around the world to advocate for better health care, expanding human rights and meeting the SDGs and seeking to engage law-makers and parliamentary allies from around the globe in the common mission of improving health, protecting human rights and eradicating poverty both their home countries and abroad.
